MCR2 Science Fair - January 10, 2019
On Thursday, January 10th, our community poured into the Montgomery City Elementary School to support and view the unbelievable science fair projects by the students from Montgomery City Elementary, Jonesburg Elementary, and Montgomery County Middle School. When they walked in the door, the first 400 visitors were treated to a free meal of a delicious chicken sandwich generously donated by Supreme Cuisine and New Florence McDonalds, Uncle Rays potato chips donated by H.T. Hackney, a soft drink donated by Pepsi-Cola in Bowling Green, and grapes donated by OPAA. The meal was expertly prepared by Jamie Merritt of OPAA and volunteers from Mrs. Beattie’s Montgomery County High School culinary class. After visiting with the Robotics Club from the Montgomery City Library, the visitors entered the gymnasium filled with rows and rows of incredible science fair projects. It really was impressive how innovative the students were with their projects! Due to generous donations from New Florence Wood Products, Boehringer-Ingelheim, H.T. Hackney/Uncle Rays Potato Chips, CertainTeed, Ameren, and Kingdom Telephone Company, the supplies were provided for the students to complete their projects so all of the students started off with the same materials. These donations also afforded the committee to be able to provide 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for each grade level. We would like to thank the many volunteers who came in to judge our projects in each grade level from educators to community members to local business owners to professional researchers and engineers. In addition to the 1st through 3rd prizes, our community businesses were invited to award subject prizes based solely upon the project idea and amount of hard work the student put into their projects. The participating businesses included Sellenriek Construction, New Florence Wood Products, CertainTeed, Boehringer Ingelheim, Jamie Merritt of OPAA, River Valley Cooling and Refrigeration, Simply Divine Salon, and Companion Animal Hospital. The night was truly amazing and a fantastic time was had by all. We look forward to the 2nd Annual MCR-2 Science Fair in 2020!
